It is seen that women suffering from breast cancer are likely to live a longer period if they eat sprouted grains, sprouted leafy greens and all other cruciferous vegetables. In researches it is also seen that the chance of cancer to come back is also lesser.
If 150 grams of these cruciferous vegetables are taken daily the risk of breast cancer is reduced greatly. Joseph E. Mario says “PhenEthyl IsoThioCyanate (PEITC) in Cabbage, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Turnips and Spinach, inhibits Enzyme P-450 causing Cancer formation on DNA; inhibits oncogenic DNA-binding, lessens the risk of intestinal, stomach, colon, and breast cancers.”( Joseph E. From the National Cancer institute we come to know that Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, turnip, kale, and Brussels sprouts are very much effective in cancer prevention. So it is one of the largest studies about preventing cancers. And this studies show that these vegetables can be chemoprotective against breast, liver, esophagus, lung, intestine, and bladder cancer.
From the annual meeting of American Association for Cancer Research (AACR from March 31 to April 4, 2012 Chicago, IL) it was known that these vegetables can be really helpful against breast cancer.
Only a small bowl of broccoli can be proved really helpful.
On the meeting in Chicago the results of the diagnosis was published. It has been long five years of research which involved almost 5000 Chinese women who were surviving the breast cancer. Their age was ranging between 20-75. All stages of breast cancer were taken under diagnosis (between the years 2002-2006).
They were given the diet having the different amount cruciferous vegetables on it. According to the amount of cruciferous consumption the patients were divided in to five groups after 18 and 36 months.
After long diagnosis (5 years) the results show that women having 150 grams of this cruciferous veggies daily have survived from cancers (42%) and other diseases (58%) compared to the other women (the women who ate less than 54 grams of these veggies).
The top veggies eaters were also found to develop a great strength which helps them to fight against cancer and the comeback of cancer was reduced about 19%.
After these astonishing results researches confirmed that these veggies really helped. Actually cruciferous vegetables contain a compound “glucosinoltes” to a great extent. If these veggies are consumed they are converted to other compounds isothiocyanates and indoles. These two compounds were found to have anti cancer properties. So, regular consumption of celery, cabbage and broccoli can reduce the risk of cancer. In addition Broccoli and Brussels sprouts, cauliflowers have D-glucaric acid, a phytochemical which is effective in minimizing breast, lung and liver cancers.
From the studies of a cancer specialist Aditya Bardia MD (Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston) we came to know that women eating a lot of cruciferous vegetables might have other advantages which might remain veiled. And it was also mentioned that more cruciferous vegetables are consumed by the Asian than the Americans. That’s why cases of breast cancers are more intense in USA. According to American Cancer Society it is seen that 40,000 women may die in 2012.
